CGA Men’s Wednesday Group
Handicap Qualifier – Wednesday 29th January
In good calm golfing conditions players enjoyed the competition with plenty of banter (and abuse) at the 19th hole with most players happy to get 0.1 back and scope for the Handicap Secretary to sharpen his pencil and make adjustments accordingly, especially to the winner!
Results
John Layland took 1st place with an impressive 36 points. Colin Reid just pipped Dave Plant on count back for 2nd place with 34 points on the back nine making the difference. Dave Plant with his 34 points just edged out Bernie Langley into 4th place with 33 points.
A great day and everyone is looking forward to next month’s qualifier (or not!)

CGA Ladies’ Tuesday Fun Golf Day and Lunch on 4th February
This was originally scheduled for January, but heavy rain meant it had to be postponed so sadly a few ladies were unable to make the new date.
We managed two teams of 4 and, in perfect warm sunshine, enjoyed a team game of ‘sixes’. The winning team, with a score of 85 points, were Vron Porter, Alison Vasey, Hayley Barker and Verona Elder.

The runners-up with a score of 79 points were Pam Andrew, Irene Langley, Sue Brew and Deb McLachlan.
Nearest the Pin prizes: Vron (3rd hole), Alison (5th hole), Verona (11th hole) and Pam (13th hole).
We enjoyed a delicious 4 course lunch at the golf club,, finishing with port or Baileys and cheese and biscuits, all accompanied with much laughter. The prizes were presented and all players came away with something good to eat or drink! Many thanks go to all the staff at the club, Bernard Langley and Clive Porter for helping with the cards, but especially Irene Langley for planning and organising the whole event.

Wild Life on the Golf Course
In the wet weather at the beginning of February, Camposol Golf Course was badly flooded. It was good for the grass and for filling in the ponds, but rain stopped play for at least a day and a half. Mark Teasdale, Chief Grounds Man and our resident David Attenborough took photos of the flora and fauna on the course.

There a couple of pictures; one of the very dangerous processional caterpillars which are extremely hazardous for dogs. Also shown is the flooded fairway on the 16th hole. The turtles that inhabit the ponds came out and were enjoying themselves skittering about in the flood water. Mark says it is amazing how much wild life he sees when he starts work very early in the mornings with no-one around to disturb the animals.
