June Club de Golf Results
The first club de golf competition since lockdown, took place on 23rd June. It was great to see 69 people compete once more for the Mercers Trophy which is now in its third year. The Golf Committee and Management would like to thank Mercers for their sponsorship and support which enabled us to put on this competition and provide such good prizes.
A 9am shotgun start saw the field start in relatively calm conditions although, as it often does, the wind became a bigger feature as the round progressed. The course is in great condition following lockdown and our thanks go to Colin Dorsett, Mark Teasdale and Dougie Baker for their work in getting the course prepared. We now have a two-time winner of the Mercers Trophy!
1st – Dave Freer – 39pts
2nd – Ray Cole – 36pts
3rd – Dennis Jones – 35pts
4th – Vron Porter – 34pts
5th – Bernard Langley – 33pts
6th – Phil Kasey Smith – 33pts (cb)

Well played to Dave Freer for winning the Mercers Trophy for the second year running. If you win it again next year Dave, you can keep it! Well played to all the other prize winners. We hope everyone enjoyed the day. Photos on the Golf Club’s Facebook page.
Happy golfing to all.

CGA Ladies’ Tuesday Group
The ladies play every Tuesday; first tee time 9am. All ladies are welcome. If you would like to join, please put your name down with Noemi in the Pro Shop and turn up on the tee. The ladies play a different team game every week and once a month play a Singles Stableford in order to keep handicaps on track.

Wild Life on the Golf Course
Mark Teasdale, Head Green Keeper, aka our very own David Attenborough sees lots of wild life on the course as he starts work very early in the morning before the golfers disturb the animals. He sees lots of flora and fauna. This photo shows him handling a very young small snake, which when I asked does it grow bigger his answer was in the affirmative. Yuk!!
CGA Charity Quiz
Unfortunately the March Charity Quiz had to be cancelled. The CGA was still holding the 890€ from the Quiz held last November. As we cannot see it being safe to hold a similar event in the foreseeable future we decided to distribute these funds now. Accordingly 300€ was presented to MABS on 13th July; 300€ to Age Concern on 14th July and 300€ to FAST on 15th July. We were smiling for the camera behind the masks – honestly! Many thanks to those who attended the Quiz in November and to the 126 participants who had agreed to go to the Quiz in March. Your support for this was also much appreciated.

CGA Summer Ball & Christmas Dinner Dance
Sadly we have cancelled these. We are very sorry to disappoint our many supporters.

CGA Golfing Away Day
This will be held at Mar Menor on Friday 23rd October and will be subsidised by a massive 20€. The price with Spanish Federation Ins. should be 55€. With CGA membership it will be 35€. First tee 10.32am. The sign-up sheet is in the Club House awaiting your signature. Only a limited number of tee times have been booked, so make the most of your membership with this very generous offer.
Firemen –v- Policemen Competition
This annual event will take place on Friday 11th September. This fun-packed event has lots of good natured banter between teams. It is a 4 Ball Better Ball Match Play Competition and 7 Firemen and 3 Policemen are coming over from the UK especially to play as they have enjoyed it so much in previous years. If you have not been a Fireman/Policeman, a team will be nominated for you. Last year 63 participants took part and it would be great if we could get a similar turn out this year. The signup sheet is in the Men’s Changing Room at the Club House or get in touch with Lloyd Roberts or John Layland.
Take care and stay safe.
