CGA Men’s Wednesday Group

The Handicap Qualifying Competition on Wednesday 26th February was in fantastically sunny and calm conditions and greens that were playing really well for some good scores. However, maybe the slightly earlier start than usual caused a few out of sync swings as the winning scores were certainly lower than usual.

1st – Patrick with 33 points

2nd – Dennis Jones with 32 points

3rd – Ian Butters with 30 points

Thanks to Eugene Toye for doing the draw.

Twilight League

The CGA Men also played their first two matches in the Inter Society Twilight League.

The first match saw Neil Smith, Dennis Jones, Flavio Farrugia and Colin Reid take on the Los Amigos Golf Society. It was a closely contested match with plenty of friendly banter between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw, with Neil and Dennis earning a hard-earned half in their respective matches; Colin just winning his match by holing a putt on the last and Flavio ‘not at the races’.

In the second match a couple of days later, Flavio, Dave Freer, Keith Halliwell and Ian Butters took on the Mazarron Country Golf Club Society. Again a closely fought match ended in a 2-2 draw with Flavio and Ian earning valuable half points from their matches, Dave Freer winning his match and Keith on the wrong side of a strong performance from his opponent.

The CGA team are looking forward to the next match.

CGA Ladies’ Tuesday Competition

Only 7 ladies played on Tuesday due to other commitments (non-playing visitors and hospital appointments). The day started very well, but the scores reflected the fact that the early morning gentle breeze transformed into not quite a howling gale, but it felt very like it coming up the 18th hole.

1st – Penny Sadler with 33 points

2nd – Vron Porter with 32 points

3rd – Denise Brown with 31 points

Wild Life on the Golf Course

Apparently a large snake has taken up residence in the scrub below the path on the 10th hole. He basks in the sun most of the time and then slithers to the lake that splits the fairway from the green, eats a couple of frogs then slithers back again to sleep it off.  His camouflage is so good it is difficult to spot him.   (See photo)

Unfortunately the Charity Quiz tabled to take place at the Club House on 12th March had to be cancelled due to the Corona virus. This will be re-scheduled at a later date.

Golfing Away Days

The Away Day arranged for 19th March at Roda was unfortunately cancelled.
