Shaun runs the Expat in Mazarrón YouTube channel which is about living in Spain including Camposol, places of interest, property and going out walking. Camposol Explorers is about going out exploring once a month in the Murcia Region. If you want to join, please contact Shaun on Facebook Expat in Mazarron.

The August outing was to Oasys Mini Hollywood Theme Park in Almeria. During the 60s & 70s, many ‘Spaghetti Western’ films were made here and in the area of Tabernas. Tabernas is the only desert area in Europe and this was why the films were made there.

The most famous one was The Good, the Bad and the Ugly which was made in 1966 and made Clint Eastwood a star. In the film, one of the towns was shot at Mini Hollywood.

We arrived just before 11am and there was a long queue for the ticket office, but we made it in time for the midday Western Show.

After the Western Show we had our picnic in the shade and we have to thank the ladies for making a lovely meal and supplying us with plenty of cold drinks. There were two young children in our group, Ollie & Mikey, who loved the show and the food. We then all split up to walk around the Western set, gardens and the zoo.

During the day there are live shows; a Western Show (cowboy gun fighting & hanging), Cow Girl Show and Can-Can in the Yellow Rose Saloon, as well as a Parrot Show three times a day. The zoo, which has over 800 animals, is massive. I found it too big to walk round, although the others enjoyed it and there is a land train to ferry you about on one part of the zoo. Two younger members of the group went swimming as it has its own pool. We also managed to get some coffees while walking round before meeting up again at 4pm outside the Sheriff’s building.

We watched the 5pm Western show while others went into the Yellow Rose Saloon. We then all decided to make our way back to Camposol.

Everyone enjoyed the day out and are looking forward to the next outing in September. Hopefully on Monday 6th September we are going underground, exploring in tunnels in the Murcia Region.
