Shaun has been running the Expat in Mazarron YouTube channel since arriving here in Spain in 2015. It’s all about living in Spain; where he lives, Camposol, places of interest, property, going out walking and many more things about Spain. He also set up a group called Camposol Explorers which is about going out exploring once a month in the Murcia Region. If you want to join, please contact Shaun on his FaceBook group Expat in Mazarron.

In June, the group set off with the weather saying cloudy and rain, but that didn’t stop us.

Los Urrutias
Los Urrutias

Our first location was Embarcadero de Los Urrutias, (Google Maps Sat Nav location), about a 50 minute drive from Camposol. On the sandy beach is a new bathing deck made of wood with shade coverings, looking out towards La Manga. No dogs are allowed on the decking.

Cabo de Palos

Second location: Cabo de Palos, (Google Maps Sat Nav location), Lighthouse and view point. First this was the site of a temple to the god Ba’alis, over 2,000 years ago and then a watchtower from 1556 to warn the locals of Berber raiders from Northern Africa. 1863 saw the construction of the lighthouse.

The light beacon has a range of 24 miles with amazing views looking towards La Manga and out towards the sea. We had a coffee break before walking up towards the lighthouse and had a packed lunch before moving on to our last location.

Bridge of Laughter

Third location: Puente de la Risa (Google Maps Sat Nav location). The Bridge of La Risa is a tourist attraction of La Manga due to its steep climb over the bridge. Also known as The Bridge of Laughter.

Collados Beach
Collados Beach

Before we returned home we visited Collados Beach, La Manga. There is a restaurant & bar on the beach with its own walk-in pool. Everybody enjoyed the day out and are looking forward to the next outing.

If this is the area you are looking to explore and want to see a bit more of the mountains and surrounding area, Camposol Explorers have a trip planned on Friday 2nd July to Sierra Espuña. This is weather permitting (but will be re-scheduled to a week later if unable to go ahead) and of course is subject to the restrictions on group numbers allowed at that time.
