My beautiful Lola, life will never be the same without her, I miss her dreadfully
My beautiful Lola, life will never be the same without her, I miss her dreadfully

We had some really sad news last month – our first ever donkey Lola, that we rescued 14 years ago, went over the Rainbow Bridge.  She was an old girl, but we were not quite expecting it to happen just yet.  We are devastated beyond words. Over the last 14 years she had worried us on quite a few occasions, but just bounced back.   This time though it was her time and through all the sadness we have nothing but wonderful memories.  Reliable, dependable, unflappable Lola attended so many shows, garden parties, fiestas, church services and more without ever putting a hoof wrong.  You will live on in our Sanctuary Lola. Sweet dreams precious girl.

At The Sanctuary, the donkeys are having a whale of a time. Everyone is working hard to get all the correct paperwork and licences in place.  We have had several meetings along with quotes to get the land excavated (flattened) in order to start the construction of the stables.

That will be huge progress and a massive step closer to us being able to open up the Sanctuary and have all our donkeys and ponies in one place.

We have taken on an enormous project, but we didn’t go into this half-heartedly. Our donkeys need a safe, quiet, calm environment where they are loved and cared for 24 hours a day 365 days a year, where they can roam freely and never want for anything. With your help we are achieving this and the donkeys that are there already love it!  They wander, scratch, play, hang out and the landscape is interesting for them so they don’t become bored and cause trouble! Donkeys are naturally clever, playful, friendly and sometimes naughty which makes each one so unique. Take a look at our FB page to see lots of pictures of the donkeys in their new environment.  Typically, donkeys are sweet and gentle, enjoying associating with people which is why we can’t wait for you to be able to come and meet them.

Our new donkey, Brioche, has been very well cared for and loved, but due to personal circumstances he had to be rehomed.  He is about 10 years old and is currently in hospital having been castrated and is feeling a little sad. He is on IV antibiotics because of an infection, but I am sure he will bounce back and enjoy his new life with AAR.
