Eighty-Year-Old Keith Bagnall continued his superb recent form with another monthly win with 35 points off his 20 handicap.
The Altorreal Golf Society, (TATS – Tuesday and Thursday Society), usually has a first tee-off time of around 8.30am every Tuesday and Thursday, which guarantees an enjoyable round of less than four hours.
Altorreal, in Molina de Segura, on the outskirts of Murcia City, is a fair test of golf. The par 71 course has a great deal of variety. It is tight in some areas and open and tree-lined in others. It opened in 1994 and was designed by Dave Thomas, who also laid out The Brabazon course at The Belfry with Peter Alliss and La Manga Club.
“We are a very friendly society and new members, both men and women, will be made very welcome,” says committee member Mike Gardner. “We have a couple of Spanish members too and any locals can join right away. The course is beautiful and fair and the management have passed on to us significant savings for our members of up to 40%. A shared buggy and green fee, for example, will only cost 45€ which is a great deal. The best thing about this society, apart from the wonderful course, is the members. It is always relaxed and friendly.”
TATS organise yearly matchplay tournaments – singles and doubles – and there are several ‘Away Days’ with discounted green fees and hotel prices where non-playing wives and husbands can enjoy the break too. This year, the trips include visits to Albacete and Valle de Este in Mojacar.
There are more than 40 members from all over Murcia with players travelling from as far as Benidorm and Caravaca. Membership fees are 5€ a year. If you need any more information, please contact Mike Gardner on mikegardner@hotmail.co.uk
