The first of our two dances outside this year took place at the pool area, Mariano's Restaurant, Camposol on 21 July, where we saw the return of the very popular Beagles. We also introduced a new girl to this area called Kate Axten, who not only sang as herself, but also performed a Cher Tribute. This was a surprise to everyone who attended and from the response she received at the end, proved a very popular choice, especially with many of the men! With 210 people in attendance, Kate & the Beagles had the dance floor packed all evening. It was really nice to see so many new people coming along for the first time and taking the time to come and speak to us after the event. We will see the Beagles back with us for our New Year's Eve Party Night and we wish them good luck with their new CD which they have just released.
Following this dance, some of the profit from the raffle enabled us to purchase a Sat. Navigation system for the MABS (Cancer Support Group) car. This will make it so much easier for the volunteer drivers, as there are so many clinics and hospitals in the Murcia area that they have to transport people to. This was recently presented to MABS by the organisers and some of the Welcome Group. The Welcome Group will be sponsoring the MABS Helpline for one year from September.
The Jigsaw/Book Swap will be starting up again on Tuesday 9 September after its summer break.
This takes place on alternate Tuesdays from 10am to 12 noon and information is available from Jo (630 351 509) or Rosemary (620 105 179). Line Dancing also resumes again on Monday 1 September and information on this popular group can be obtained by contacting Ann (663 731 738).
At time of going to press (15/08) we only have a few tickets left for 15 October Race Night left. Our dance on 29 September with the Soul Family has sold out. From 2 August tickets will be on sale for Halloween Night Dance with food (14€).
Owing to Mariano's Restaurant being closed for the first two weeks in October, we will have two meetings in September, the first one being 6th and then 27th September at the Mariano's, Camposol starting at 2pm. The 6 September Meeting will see tickets on sale for 18 November Dance which will have first class entertainment with Sunset & introducing for the first time in this area the fantastic voice of Nick Gold, plus disco sounds with Terry. There will be no food and tickets will be 10€. The 15 December Christmas Party Night tickets will also go on sale from this date and they are priced at 18€ with food. First class entertainment will be with the one and only Eddie Wallace and seeing the return of the popular Time Warp.
From 27 September Meeting tickets will go on sale for the Ladies' Day (5 Dec), Men's Laser Shooting Day (5 Dec) and New Year's Eve Party Night. It is with deepest regret that we have to send condolences to Dede and Mary and their families for the sad loss of Tony and Ken (Champagne Sounds Disco).Tony and Ken were responsible for helping in the setting up of The Welcome Group and will both be sadly missed.
