Welcome Group November 2007 |
Following the request at the 2 September meeting on behalf of MABS (Cancer Support Group) for more volunteers to sign up and help out with this very worthwhile charity, we were delighted to hear that a lot of new volunteers went along to their meeting and have now signed up. We would also like to take this opportunity of wishing Jackie Laind, who is retiring at the end of the year as the co–ordinator for the Mazarrón area, all the very best as she starts her new life in France. We were very grateful to Jackie for taking on this role in the first place, with the setting up of MABS for this area. Jackie and all the volunteers have done a fantastic job in running this in such a very caring and professional manner. Well done to all of you and keep up the good work.
Well we were certainly very lucky with the weather for the great trip we had to Valencia from 18 to 20 September. What a beautiful place to visit with so much to see and so little time. Every one of the 96 people that we took on the trip said it would certainly be a place they would love to go back to. The L’Oceanografic, which is the biggest marine park in Europe, was certainly one of the highlights; a truly spectacular place. The Expo Hotel where we stayed was certainly in a central position in Valencia with buses and taxis very close by. We were quite surprised, for a city, how reasonably priced the modes of transport were. Giving everyone on the trip a free raffle ticket, free bingo, bucks fizz & goodies on the journey plus 2€ to purchase a coffee at the services the whole trip cost 98€. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a very friendly and totally enjoyable trip. Well done to Kathy at Dragontours for getting us such a great deal. We were delighted to welcome on our trip the lovely Stella who has now reached the fantastic age of 97. Stella comes out to Camposol every year to visit her son and family and always times it for a Welcome event. Stella you certainly look younger every year and we certainly look forward to seeing you next year.
Stella, with so much energy, also came along and enjoyed the cabaret/dance night on 24 September where we saw the return of Sunset and the outrageous Eddie Wallace performing songs from the musicals, plus their own individual entertainment. As a special request we had asked Eddie to sing ‘Send in the Clowns’ again which he obliged and did to great applause. We were delighted on the evening to have our new black curtain with some lovely lighting on show. Thanks to Terry for doing such a brilliant job. We now have our own stage, a great p.a. system and lighting which we are very pleased about. We have certainly come a long way from when we first started with absolutely nothing. So thanks to everyone that has continued to support us.
We had a packed room at Mariano’s for our meeting on 29 September which was held in place of our October Meeting (owing to Mariano’s being closed). Tickets went on sale for Jimmy Cricket who will be appearing with us on 27 November and also for New Year’s Eve Night. We were delighted to say that everyone who wanted tickets and came along to the meeting did get them. All November events and New Year’s Eve Night have now sold out. Despite a Camposol rumour, no person purchased 60 tickets for the New Year’s Eve event. Mariano’s agreed to move the screens back for us to make the room bigger on this night so no-one went away disappointed. We now have a waiting list for all events but it is always worth putting your name on it as tickets do come back for various reasons. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who attended this meeting and showed their continued support to us. It certainly meant a lot.
Line Dancing will finish for the Christmas break on Thursday 13 December. Book/Jigsaw Swap will finish on Tuesday 11 December and resume again on Tuesday 8 January 2008.
Our November Meeting being held on Saturday 3rd will have tickets on sale for the Ladies’ Day (5/12), Men’s Day (5/12) and the Christmas Party Night (10/12) or thereafter by contacting us.
We would like to take this opportunity of thanking Kim, who is now retiring from being our door man. Kim has done this job over the last 4 years, always in a very friendly and professional way. We wish him all the very best especially with his forthcoming knee operation.
