Welcome Group
Welcome Group May 2008

In April's issue the last sentence of the first paragraph in our report was accidentally omitted so we are therefore putting it to print again. It should have read: "It was explained at the March Meeting and agreed that we cannot donate money to various projects which have been suggested for the urbanisation of Camposol. If in time these projects are completed then money being raised through our Group can be donated in the way of purchasing equipment for them".

Following our donation to the Contra Cancer Clinic in Murcia we were delighted to receive a letter from The President of the Murcian AECC thanking Welcome for the donation and for the support we have given to them. We feel this is a small part that we are playing as a few of our supporters have certainly been very grateful to them for detecting the first signs of cancer and referring them for treatment. We can't thank the Clinic enough for allowing us to make use of this very valuable service.

Our Cabaret/Dance Night on Friday 11 April certainly made everyone forget the problems with the euro/pound and laughter was definitely the recipe of the night. The evening started with a couple of line dancing numbers with some of Ann's line dancing class giving an excellent performance. It was nice to see some others joining in and also the men taking part. Well done to you all. Our first entertainer for the evening was the very talented Eddie Wallace, who is such a favourite with the Welcome Group. Eddie is not only a very funny guy but has the most powerful voice. Next on was the lovely Kinnie Lee who sang a lot of well known songs from the musicals and finished her first spot along with Eddie singing two duets. Bearing in mind these two had only just met and rehearsed for 5 mins, you would never have known - quite outstanding. Next on was a newcomer to us, a very funny guy called Alan Wallace who lives down in the Costa del Sol. Alan is on the Thomson Gold Hotel circuit and also travels back and forth to the UK covering a lot of big events. A very professional guy who had the audience in stitches but with no bad language. Thanks to everyone who took their ribbing in good part. Eddie and Kinnie finished their last spots with great dance sounds having the dance floor packed. Thanks to Terry for providing disco sounds in between. The light supper of corned beef pie & chips kindly supplied by Jane's Catering certainly went down well. A great evening of first class entertainment all for the tremendous value of 14€.
