Welcome Group May 2007 |
Seems a long time ago now but our two sell out March events were great nights of entertainment. Our first event was the monthly dance held on Monday 19 March, which in fact was more of a cabaret night. The popular group Sunset along with the outrageous Eddie Wallace provided an evening of first class entertainment singing songs from some of the most popular West End Musicals. With quick costume changes and great music played by Den from Sunset the audience were enchanted by it all. Eddie Wallace’s version of ‘send in the clowns’ was quite outstanding. From the standing ovation they received at the end and the great feedback we have received, it proved it was certainly a great night of first class entertainment for 12€. We also welcomed along on the night, Mark who is the resident DJ at the Lounge Bar in Torrevieja. Mark provided some great disco sounds, also joining in the cabaret and his version of Swan Lake had to be seen to be believed. The night finished up with Sunset joined by Eddie Wallace singing songs from all the popular singers, with the dance floor packed at all times. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking Ron Hacker and St Nicholas Church for the kind loan of their changing screens.
Our second March event was the race night held at the Salidillo Vista Bar, Camposol on Wednesday 28 March, in memory of a lovely guy called Michael Grimes. Michael was due to fly out to Spain to visit his daughter Wendy and to come along to the race night but died suddenly in the U.K. 115 people joined in the evening with great excitement cheering on the winners. Despite 70% being paid out in winnings on the night, 1,000 euros was donated to Contra Cancer in Murcia. The cheque was presented to Jane Goss who arranges the appointments and acts as translator for the Welcome Group at the Clinic and will be taking it along with the next screening programme in May. This programme has proved a great success in the time that we have been running it with 9 men and 1 lady sent as referrals to specialists. We would like to thank the drivers who take members of the group and special thanks as always to Jane for her dedication to this great cause.
Owing to the awful weather at the end of March the fun petanca which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month at Mariano’s, Camposol was unable to go ahead on Wednesday 28 March. The petanca is always held on the last Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. (June, July & August at 4 p.m.). People that go along have asked if it is wet on the last Wednesday could it then be held on the following Wednesday being the first of the month. This has now been agreed but obviously if you are intending on coming along and are in any doubt please call Rosemary on 620 105 179.
