Welcome Group July 2008 |
How lucky we were for our trip to Barcelona as the previous week the city had seen some heavy rainfall. We did see rain whilst on the train journey, but once we arrived there the sun shone until the morning we left when the rain came down again. A beautiful place to visit with so much to see, especially the Rambla which was the main choice for the evening with so many nice restaurants and great street entertainers.
Our Ladies' Day was held on Wednesday 4 June outside at Mariano´s Restaurant on Camposol, with 200 ladies attending. The ticket price of 11€ included a Fashion Show courtesy of Legs & Co. Thanks to Donna and staff. Bingo, raffle, drinks, superb buffet provided by Gill & Chris`s Pantry and first class entertainment by the very popular Eddie Wallace. From the great feedback we have received it was obvious all the ladies had a very enjoyable afternoon. On the day we had our glamorous ladies who modelled the clothes so professionally, especially ´Maria´ from Sound of Music!! Thanks to Yvonne & Vivienne the beauticians who provided free manicures on the day & raffle prizes; also Melissa, Lyn & Donna who kindly donated vouchers and to all the great helpers that made it such an enjoyable event. Thanks must go to our fantastic volunteers who turned up the day before with buckets and cloths to prepare the outside area and who came back after the event to help clear up.
Not to be outdone, the men organised a laser shooting day with Terry being the eventual winner along with Paul & Bill in second and third place. Thanks to John & Pam for their hospitality and to the Pasty Shack for the superb packed lunches.
Next Book/Jigsaw Swap is Tuesday 8th July, 10 am - 12 noon and will be the last one until it resumes following the summer break on Tuesday 9 September. Tickets for the 21 July Dance & the Valencia trip in September (2 coaches) have now sold out. At time of going to press (15/06), tickets on sale for 1 September Dance (7€) being held outside at Mariano´s Restaurant, Camposol. First class entertainment with the very popular Ricky Powell along with the lovely Kinnie Lee and Terry providing disco sounds in between.
The next Welcome Meeting is at Mariano´s Restaurant, Camposol, 2 pm on Saturday 5 July. Tickets will go on sale from this meeting for 29 September Dance where we will see the return of the very popular Soul Family from Benidorm along with Lucinda who will be coming over from the UK. Mark Ellwood will provide disco sounds in between and tickets will be priced at 10€ (no food).
It was lovely to meet so many new people who have recently moved into the area at our last meeting. They were genuinely surprised at the events being held not just on Camposol but in the surrounding areas. I think most people agree they have got a far better social life here in Spain than they had in the UK - well it is definitely a cheaper one!
