Welcome Group January 2008 |
A Very Happy & Healthy New Year to all. We would like to take this opportunity of saying well done to everyone associated with Carnival Group who managed second place with their float of Toytown in the Carnival procession which took place in Mazarrón on Sunday 9 December.
The Treasure Hunt took place on Sunday 18th November. We had 81 enthusiastic people starting off from the car park on B Sector, Camposol, hoping to complete the course with all the questions right. The eventual winners by only half a point were ‘Big Boy’ (Tom, Ann, Colin & Linda) winning lovely wine hampers, with ‘John’s Four’ (John, Sue, Terry & Kath) coming in a very close second. The ones with the least amount of clues right, ‘Lost in Spain’ (Ron, Gwen, Brian & Maureen) also received some goodies. We were served with a superb buffet by Gill & Chris’s Pantry at the lovely community hall in Los Canovas. Thanks to Jim & Paul for the organisation, to Mary for arranging the use of the hall & to Gill & Chris for the splendid food. Our 27th November Cabaret/Dance Night saw the very popular Kay C with her Shania Twain tribute. We then welcomed to the stage the one and only Jimmy Cricket. What a true professional, on stage for 1½ hours with not one swear word and very topical jokes. The standing ovation received at the end was certainly well deserved. The evening was finished with the lovely Kay C and thanks to Terry who acted as the sound engineer and provided disco sounds during the evening. Our December events started on 5th December with a coach of ladies going off firstly to the shopping mall at Parque Mediterranean then leaving there late afternoon for the front at Torrevieja. As the weather was still really nice many strolled along the front looking at the market stalls and then up into the town for some more shops!! Leaving there at 6.30pm we made our way to the Chinese Torre Oriente for the meal and wine before going to the Lounge Bar where we had a great evening dancing to the sounds of the very popular Beagles. Thanks Martin & Stuart for some great music. Finally we left Torrevieja at 12.15am to make our way back to the Country Club and Camposol.
Not to be outdone, the men enjoyed on the same day an afternoon laser shooting. The eventual winner was Terry with second place going to Paul. A superb packed lunch was provided by The Pasty Shop which certainly went down very well. Thanks to Jim for organising and to John & Pam for their kind hospitality.
We had a packed room for the December Meeting where tickets went on sale for Valentine’s Night and the January Games Night. Valentine’s Night had sold out by the following Monday and at time of going to press (15/12) only a few Games Night tickets left.
January dates for the very popular Book/Jigsaw Swap will be Tuesday 8th & 22nd from 10am to 12 noon. For info. on this group, please contact Jo (630 351 509) or Rosemary (620 105 179). Line Dancing resumes again following the Christmas break on Monday 7th January. For info please contact Ann on 663 731 738. Monthly Petanca will re–start again on Wednesday 30th January and then the last Wednesday of each month.
