Welcome Group February 2008 |
It seems a long time ago now but we have had great feedback from the Christmas and New Year events we put on. Our Christmas Party Night was a bit different for 2007 as we not only had all the usual favourite dance music provided by Eddie Wallace, Sunset & Mark Ellwood, but a great cabaret which included the singing of many Christmas Carols along with the performance of 12 days of Christmas. This was an excellent show with many costume changes and lots of audience participation. Laughter was in abundance and a standing ovation at the end was certainly well deserved. We have to thank Richard, Carol & John who were willing volunteers and played their parts exceptionally well. John we will now always see you as Buttercup!!! We were quite overwhelmed by the amount of gifts we received for the Grand Raffle; many thanks to everyone that donated. We do not have enough room here to name everyone but a sheet of donations was put on each table on the evening. We would just like to thank the following who gave us such generous donations for the raffle, they were: Cactus Shop, Mazarrón Bowls Club, Caja Murcia bank, Lamparas Ekolux, Muebles Gallego, Costa Cálida Properties, Obri Pintura, Iberia Villa Sales, Another World Properties, DFS, Rainbow Satellites, ADS Locksmiths, C & M Construction, Market Tavern, Don Ricardo's, ASSA, Plumas, Cam Bank, Luz Del Sol, Legs & Co., Dragontours, CRA, MABS, Petanca Club & Gateway to India.
Our last event of the year was the New Year's Eve Party Night. Special thanks to Mariano's for opening on this night and allowing us to hold our event there and for extending the room. This allowed us to not only have the 220 people sitting comfortably, but also to have a larger dance floor. A superb cold buffet was provided by Gill & Mike with such a variety of food. Thanks go to them and the volunteers who came and helped in laying out all the food on the tables. The first class entertainment was provided by The Beagles (Martin & Stu - loved the suits), the lovely Jane Woodward & great disco music from Champagne Sounds. Champagne & grapes were consumed at midnight with the singing of Auld Lang Syne before the 300 balloons were released over the dance floor. We would like to say a personal thank you to Yvonne and Ann who had arranged a collection previously and on the night we were presented with a voucher to be spent in El Corte Ingles. We were quite overwhelmed by this kind gesture and the lovely words spoken by Yvonne. It is nice to think all our hard work is so much appreciated, but as we always say, we couldn't do it without all you great volunteers.
Thanks go to all the volunteers who came and helped for both events by decorating the Christmas tree and the room at Mariano's, to Angela Woolley for the beautiful table names she so kindly did for us, the people who blew all the balloons up and arranged the net, but most of all to everyone that attended and helped in making both events such enjoyable evenings. The Entertainment Programme from January to June is now out and available from Dragontours Office Sector A Commercials, Camposol or from Welcome. Tickets on sale at time of going to press (15/1) are for 5 March Race Night (2?) & 12 March Dance (14?).
Our next Meeting will be Saturday 2nd February where tickets will be on sale for 11th April Cabaret Night; also details regarding the Barcelona Trip in May.
