Welcome Group December 2007 |
Our last excursion for this year was the popular Autumn 3–day trip to Benidorm. This year we didn’t include the Benidorm Palace, although some people did book individually and went along and thoroughly enjoyed the splendid show. We did a trip out on the second morning to the beautiful mountain village of Guadalest. This village is certainly worth a visit when in that area, lovely jewellery & lots of individual type shops to wander around with such stunning scenery for all to enjoy. We were so lucky with the weather as we heard Camposol had heavy rain all day on the Tuesday. We had beautiful sunshine apart from a heavy downpour just as we were back on the coach following our morning trip out. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable trip.
The 22 October Dance saw the return of the very professional Soul Family from Benidorm, Carlos and his two stunning daughters provided some great entertainment with the dance floor packed and people singing along to the familiar hits from the Drifters, Temptations, Lionel Richie to name a few. Our lady singer for the evening was the lovely Kinnie Lee who in her first 45 minute spot sang many songs from the musicals in her own unique way but certainly had everyone up on the dance floor for her last 45 minute spot with popular hits from the 60’s to the present day. A great night of first class entertainment for 14€.
Our usual November Race Night was held on Wednesday 7 November. The evening was held in the memory of a lovely lady called Gloria Ellis who sadly died in July of this year. All money raised is being donated to MABS (Cancer Support Group). After paying out 75% on the night the total raised was 750 euros with 150 euros which has been donated by the Book/Jigsaw Swap. We will make the donation up to 1,000 euros and this cheque will be presented to MABS at our 1 December Meeting. Thanks to the 118 people who attended and made it such an enjoyable evening, special praise to Mike and Steve’s parties who certainly kept the betting going well. Well done to Colin & Haydn for making sure everything ran smoothly with thanks also to Dougie and staff of the Salidillo Vista Bar for allowing us to hold it there.
We are now working on our entertainment programme for the first part of next year and this will be given out at 1 December Meeting. The trips we hope to do next year will be to Barcelona in May, & Seville in September, also the usual Benidorm trip either October or November.
Our first event for 2008 will be our usual January Games Night which includes Beetle Drive, prize Bingo, Quiz and free Raffle ticket. This will be held on Wednesday 16 January at Mariano’s Restaurant, with tickets priced at 3€. These tickets will go on sale from 1 December Meeting. The Valentine’s Night Dance tickets will also go on sale from 1 December Meeting. The Dance will be held on Thursday 14 February and will see a first class show with four excellent singers. This will be a night you can come along and re–live your courting days with songs from Elvis, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly & Lulu to name just a few plus the very popular Kay C to end the evening. This is the first time the show has been seen in this area and we will be introducing three new singers to the Welcome Group on this night. Tickets will be 13€ and will include a light supper. Tables can be reserved at time of purchasing tickets.
The Book/Jigsaw Swap will finish on Tuesday 11 December for a Christmas break but will resume on Tuesday 8 January 2008 so make sure you have enough reading material to see you over the Xmas period. Line Dancing will finish on Thursday 13 December and re–start again on Monday 7 January 2008. Petanca will re–start again on Wednesday 30 January and then the last Wednesday of each month.
