Welcome Group April 2008 |
When the Welcome Group started up nearly 5 years ago, the idea was not to raise lots of money but to provide a low cost social scene where people could meet and make new friends. Any money raised, was donated to local community completed projects or worthwhile charities/good causes. We have done this over the time and many organisations have benefited including Contra Cancer (AECC), MABS (Cancer Support Group), Macaroon Football Team (trophy provided), British Carnival Group (material for costumes), Shoreless School, Totana (sports equipment), plus Spanish organisations such as Pensionista Club, Port Macaroon (audio equipment & books), ASPADEM (safety equipment for mini bus, books etc.) also playgroups in the area (play equipment) plus many others. It was explained at the March Meeting and agreed that we cannot donate money to various projects which have been suggested for the urbanisation of Camposol.
Our Race Night which took place on Wednesday 5 March was a great night of fun and laughter. Thanks to Colin, all the helpers also to the bar staff at the Salidillo Vista for making it another successful evening. A cheque for 1,135 euros will be presented to Jane Goss who will accept this on behalf of Contra Cancer at our 5 April Meeting. The cheque includes a very kind donation from Valle del Sol Bowls Club of 135 euros. Well done to all the people who supported the evening.
The 12 March Dance saw again some first class entertainment with the ever popular B J Stevens from Torrevieja, making his yearly visit to the Welcome Group. B J who this year came as himself, not Elvis, had the dance floor packed with his tribute to some great male singers with also a few Elvis ones thrown in. We also introduced a great male & female duo called Time Warp from Benidorm, who covered songs from many great 60´s hits. Terry provided great disco sounds in between.
April dates for Book/Jigsaw Swap are Tuesday 1st, 15th & 29th April, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Can we remind people attending the Book Swap to please park their cars in the car park on Sector B as it is a very short walk to Fortuna 457. Tickets will go on sale from our 5 April Meeting for the very popular Ladies Day which this year will be on Wednesday 4 June from 2.30 p.m. The afternoon will include a Fashion Show courtesy of Legs and Co., superb buffet, free drink (sangria, wine, soft drinks, and water), free raffle, free bingo, lucky ticket winners having a free manicure/pedicure. The live entertainment will be with the outrageous & everyone's favourite, Eddie Wallace. Great value at 11€. This is always a very popular event with the ladies and to be able to fit everyone in we will be again holding this outside at Mariano´s Restaurant, Camposol If you are unable to make the meeting, please contact us regarding ticket sales on 620 105 179/618 254 143. Not to be outdone, the men have again organised a laser shooting afternoon on the same day at a cost of 15€ which includes a packed lunch. Tickets will be on sale from 5 April Meeting.
