The Social Centre for the Elderly of Puerto de Mazarrón is celebrated its twentieth anniversary during November with an extensive programme of leisure activities and initiatives. Among the activities was the inauguration of the exhibition “Ruta del Vino de la Región de Murcia”.

The exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, and Senior Managing Director of Murcia Institute of Social Action (IMAS), Enrique Perez, who accompanied the Councillor for Social Policy, Maria Martinez. The exhibition included a large sample of all elements used for the harvest of the grapes and making wine, a map of the region with the different denominations of origin around Murcia as well as a selection of wines from different parts of Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas , among other places in the region. A visit to the exhibition was completed with the offer of a wine and cheese tapas and olives to all attendees.

The celebration of 20 years of the centre also had a Special Birthday Dance and Lottery. There was also a Tertulia Café called “Deconstructing the myths of old age” attended by the Mayor of Mazarrón, a talk entitled “Advice on medication” given by a nurse from the Health Centre in the town, and an evening provided by Theatre Group “Atardecer”, the CentreTheatre Group, with adaptation staged reading of the play “Las Guerras de nuestros antepasados”, by Miguel Delibes who, on this occasion, attended with the Councillor Maria Martinez.

A screening of the film “Entre Copas” brought an end to the celebration. The Mayor of Mazarrón stressed that “the initiatives of the Centro de Mayores are an example of vitality and participation and the Participation Council and partners of the Centre should be congratulated for the fantastic activities that they continuously organise”.
