The Murcia Branch attended the Poppy Appeal Launch in Benidorm and the recent 2017 RBL Poppy Appeal has been a resounding success with collections being made in various bars/restaurants and shops in the area. Thank you to all who supported the appeal this year. The final day for donations to be handed in to the Treasurer is 15th December.

There were various services and parades throughout the area for Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.  The Murcia Branch joined forces with Pinoso for a Remembrance Day service and a number of members joined Chairman Steve Carne who laid a wreath in honour of all those who lost their lives in the various conflicts. Bill Webb proudly presented the Branch Standard.

Following the Murcia Branch AGM on Thursday 16th November, there were a few changes to the Committee:

Unfortunately due to work commitments, Al Cullen resigned as Vice Chairman and we welcome Carl Thomas as the new Vice Chairman.

Cyndi Carne is now the Poppy Appeal North Organiser with Al Cullen covering the South area.

Bob Hurley has taken over from Cindi as Membership Secretary.

Bill Webb, our Standard Bearer, has returned to the UK and Phil Mills has agreed to take over this position.

Billie Graham-Thomas and Carl Thomas explained their roles as Branch Welfare Officers and gave members an insight of what the RBL can offer members.

The Murcia Branch welcomes Phil and his wife Emma-Jane and with the new committee they feel that the future looks good. The aim is to promote the Royal British Legion in the Murcia area by having stands in as many areas as possible, such as local artisan markets and shopping centres etc and letting people, including the Spanish, know what the RBL policies and aims are.

Questions and Answers

Q How can you support your own Branch?

A Turn up at as many meetings and events as possible even if you can only spare an hour.

Q What do you mean by Commitment?

A This is your Branch. The Committee carry out the administration for the branch. We are all volunteers and give up a lot of our time to ensure that the Branch can support you the member, but remember the first part of this answer. It’s Your Branch. Volunteer to help us help you.  Every one of our members has a skill set we as a branch can use.

Q Where does all the money go we raise at functions etc.?

A It all gets banked into the Branch bank account and correctly documented and any member can email murcia.treasurer.rbl@gmail.com and the full breakdown will be sent to you. Most events are self-funding, which means approx 90% of the door/ticket money pays for the event, so very little money comes to the Branch

Q What about donations to the Branch?

A These may be earmarked for different things for the Branch such as the standard, branch funds etc.

Q I am a member and paid my membership so I have helped the Branch?

A The Branch only receives 18% of your membership fee, so yes you contributed financially and we are very grateful, but just because you have paid your fee does not make a member an active member.

Q How do I become an active member?

A Please give up a bit of your time, whether it would be an hour or a couple of hours a month.  Ask the Committee what you can do to help?
