The Legion in District North Spain – Changes at the Top!
The Royal British Legion – District North Spain have announced some changes in their District North Committee line-up.
The new District President is Mr Nigel Hamilton-Hails who was previously Vice Chairman. Nigel has now taken over from Lloyd Milen who stood down from the role following a promotion to Consul General in Barcelona.
Nigel said he felt privileged to be asked to take on this prestigious role. “We have a very busy few years ahead of us, especially as we are approaching the Legion’s Centenary in 2021. There will be challenges, but I am looking forward to working to promote the Charity within our District.”
The new Vice Chairman is Lt Col Pete Lodge MBE. Pete served a 39 year career in the Parachute Regiment. He is no stranger to the Legion having previously undertaken the role of District Vice President. Pete said it was an honour to be considered for the position. He is proud of what the Legion stands for and achieves and he is looking forward to working closely with members of the Committee and supporting our many branches.
The District has 19 Branches and all arrange varied social events, as well as raising money for the Poppy Appeal and supporting our beneficiaries here. New members are always welcome and you do not need to have an Armed Forces background to enjoy all the Branch has to offer.

The Royal British Legion Entertainment Nights with Rob Sweeney
The beginning of July saw the Murcia Branch of the Royal British Legion have two entertainment nights starring the fantastic vocal artiste Rob Sweeney.
The first was held in the Bombay Indian Restaurant, Calasparra where Sidhu and his staff provided us with another superb Indian buffet, always a popular choice with our members and guests.
Once the buffet had been eaten and the raffle tickets sold, Rob Sweeney started the first of two sets. Such a versatile singer, he entertained us with an assortment of songs that everybody enjoyed. After the break, Rob started his second set. Everybody had had a great meal and the drinks were flowing nicely. The choice of music by Rob encouraged people to get up and dance which they did wholeheartedly.
It was a great night and raised the brilliant amount of €526, so thank you to everybody who came and enjoyed the evening and gave so generously.
Our second entertainment night took place a week later on Camposol. This was held outside on a warm and balmy evening. The Diner & Bar and Oscar’s Bar sponsored the evening and it was a great turnout.
Again, Rob Sweeney was at his best and had everybody singing and dancing in no time. In the meantime raffle tickets were sold and lots of people enjoyed the meals from the bars.
Everybody attending gave so generously to the Royal British Legion that we raised an amazing €317 and £1!!
Our thanks go to the Bombay Indian, The Diner & Bar, Oscar’s Bar and of course, the fantastic Rob Sweeney.
To everyone that attended either, or both, nights of entertainment, the Murcia Branch of the Royal British Legion thanks you for your never-ending generosity. The final tally was €843, not forgetting the £1.
Our next Branch meeting will take place on Thursday 28th September at 7pm at La Tapizzeria, Av. Cuidad de Matero, No 12, Cehegin.
