The beginning of November in Santa Pola (Alicante) saw the Campeonato de España de pesca Mar-Costa (Fishing Championship of Spain, Mar-Costa) for U-16 y U-21 categories which was attended by two athletes from del Club de Pesca Puerto de Mazarrón (Puerto de Mazarrón Fishing Club), one in each category, and achieving outstanding performances, resulting in two medals.
In the U-16 category Miguel Reche Domingo took part, whilst José Antonio García Romero was in the U-21. The shallow water, little fish and the bad weather failed to spoil the good work of the Mazarrón athletes with José Antonio García Romero winning a bronze.
The following day Miguel Reche made a great performance despite it being his first attendance at a League of Spain event, finishing 7th overall in the championship and achieving promotion to High National Competition and winning a silver medal with Team Murcia. Both are fishermen who excel in the sport of fishing despite their young ages.
Rafael Solis Pardo won the eighth edition of the Open Nacional de Pesca “Bahía de Mazarrón” in the evening of Saturday 24 November in the beaches of Bolnuevo and El Castellar in Puerto de Mazarrón. The event was held as scheduled, under a perfect night for fishing, and in contention with 82 fishermen who enjoyed the test.
The champion, Rafael Solis, who is part of the Fishing Club “Barbo” scored a total of 58 leading him to the top of the podium. Present at the awards ceremony was Councillor for Sports, Andres Valera.
Club mate Andres Jara Muñoz, was ranked second, while the third place overall went to José Ángel Aznar, from the Club “Tecnopesca”. The trophy for the largest catch was José Martínez López, with 421 grams. The total catch reached by all participants was 732 pieces, which yielded a total weight of 46 kilograms.
The Fishing Club of Puerto de Mazarrón organized this competition with sponsorship from the City of Mazarrón, and gave all attendees a wonderful barbecue. The sporting event ended with a raffle of gifts and delivery of two gifts from the Club to the Councillors of the Sports and Fishing Department , represented by Councillor sAndres Valera and Magdalena Mendez.
