Straight Down The Middle Golf Society
Venue: Lorca Golf Course on September 25th
We elected to play at Lorca again this month. It was a beautiful day with a gentle breeze. The course looked in great condition, with rolling green fairways cut into the mountainside. There were 22 players on the day.
The scoring format was Stableford Full Handicaps and the overall joint winners with an outstanding score of 40 points each were David Emburey, Roy Turner and Ian Stewart.
Nearest to the Pin on hole 8 was Geoff Sharpe and on hole 12 Dave Cox was nearest.
Scoring was the high once again for the Straight Down The Middle Golf Society, with a majority of players scoring 30 or more points. Well done to all, there were some great golfing performances
After some liquid refreshment in the clubhouse the prize giving commenced.
There was another Straight Down The Middle outing on October 4th to La Marina Golf Course near Mojacar by a small group of 8 players. The format was to be a Team Competition with the two best Stableford scores per team going forward.
David Hemmings’ team won with an outstanding score of 105 points beating a respectable 91 points for the other team. It was a welcome outcome as David is soon to be married and the ensuing celebrations. (It was not a stag party!), were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The La Marina course was quite spectacular, particularly the 4th hole, where Longest Drive was won by Ian Stewart and while there was a Nearest the Pin Competition on each par 3, it was only won by Wyn Griffiths on the 17 hole.
One or two players may have lost some balls in the adjacent residential areas and one player managed to hit a nearby swimming pool. Fortunately no one was injured.
The next golf match will have been held at Altorreal on October 30th, followed by Aguillon on November 27th. We are always pleased to welcome guests, so don’t hesitate to get your friends along to play.
