What a busy February we had!

February 12th the Fellowship Group enjoyed a St Valentine’s Lunch

February 25th was Pancake Day and the Fellowship Group and many friends enjoyed pancakes and games. This is now a tradition at St Nicholas Church each Pancake Day. At the beginning of Lent, we all took on a challenge.  Whatever it was by the time you read this article, we will be in the midst of our Lenten discipline.

February 26th we had our AGM and we have faith that the new council will lead St Nicholas forward with God’s hand guiding them.

Activities in April

Lent Lunches will continue each Wednesday for 6 weeks: 1.30pm for a 2pm lunch. All are very welcome to join us at these Lunches at a cost of 4€ for a very simple lunch of Homemade Soup, Crusty Bread, Cheese, Coffee or Tea.

Easter is a Time for Renewal After the Hardship of Lent.

As I write this month’s article I can gaze out of my window and see the signs of spring everywhere I look. Birds are busy making nests, bees are buzzing and flowers are colouring the garden and the country side.  As I look I reflect that it is at this time of year we learn to wait; how to marvel at the first sight of a little green leaf pushing through the soil; the unexpected delight when we spot a little flower that we didn’t plant just springing up on its own.  It’s a mystery how this happens. In the garden we learn to trust mystery; we learn how to believe; we learn to look not for proof, but for signs of God’s life in our midst.

Easter is a Joyful Time, a Time to Celebrate New Life.

Easter is a time of huge celebration all around the world and here in Spain in every town and village are having Fiestas. Most major holidays have some connection to the changing of the seasons. Easter falls to coincide with a key point in the solar year; The Vernal Equinox; the end of Winter and the arrival of Spring; the awakening in the  life of plants and the birth of new life in the animal world.  Easter was always a time for new outfits, Easter bonnets, the first picnic or outing of the year. People were anxious to move on into the promise of spring.

There is the sign that God our creator is with us in this world as we see each plant, tree, shrub, flower, animal, or bird; all so spectacular and individual.

All at Saint Nicholas wish you all a very Happy Easter whatever you are doing; visiting family, rolling eggs with grandchildren, or eating chocolate eggs. Have a very joyous time.
