Noche de los Museos – 20th May
The 9th Annual Night of the Museums will take place in Cartagena on Saturday 20th May. This year’s theme will be dedicated to the Year of the Enlightenment in relation to the City of Cartagena. The museums will be open from 8pm to approx 2am and entry will be free to the public.

The Mayor of Cartagena explained that the City council, in collaboration with the museums of Cartagena, tourist centres and other related industry entities working on this cultural event, will bring thousands of tourists to visit Cartagena city which will offer a varied and broad programme of activities including music, dance, theatre and circus displays as well as other events. The programme can be accessed via

Ángel Ronda designed the poster advertising the event inspired by the 18th century architectural heritage of the city; for example the Carlos III wall, the Arsenal and the Galeras castle. Ronda explained that the discovery of the true jewels of the Enlightenment were precisely those great civil engineering projects carried out by the most important engineers in Spain that transformed the city socially, economically and culturally.

This event has been described as a magical night and is managed by teams of volunteers who run the museums, act as guides for various routes and provide advice and logistic support in the different activities. Last year there were 240 volunteers involved in the Night of the Museums, namely students from the various colleges and universities in the area.
