PALS

PALS is the area’s premier legally registered charity whose activities raise monies for the purchase of equipment for the local health centres and Ambulance services to supplement their own budget requirements. Your support is vital to the provision of what may be the means of saving lives. PALS have adopted a new slogan PALS DO IT 4U.

PALS this week had a meeting with the Mayor of Mazarron Snr. Fransico Blaya together with his counsellors at Mariano’s , Camposol, around 200 people heard the mayor announce that the project for a new Health Centre had been approved and that plans would be available shortly for interested parties to comment on. As soon as the design is agreed, the planning process will begin and the project will go forward to public tender.

The other major concern for Camposol was the need for an ambulance to be located in the area. The mayor stated there was no money available for this, so PALS agreed to head a fund specifically designed to raise money for this, and would hold talks with the Protection Civil and other charities to get projected costs.

The Mayor also announced that the Town Hall was funding a translator for the medical centre in Mazarron and the Port. Initailly the translator will be available in in Mazarron daily, with the exception of Tuesday when she will be in the port. She will have a special telephone number to book her services, but at the time of writing this is not to hand. She will help with appointments at the medical centre and translation with the doctor, she WILL NOT be available to accompany you to hospital.

As of the first of April, it had been decided to place on deposit 40% of our receipts, and earmark them for equipment for the new health centre or trauma department of any new hospital serving the local area.

At our next event the St. Georges Day Dinner Dance on April 23rd at Mariano'’s we will be presenting equipment to the Ambulance service, a defibrillator and monitor plus Ambu matic and monitor. PALS have decided to make future presentations at our functions to enable more people to see the equipment they are contributing to. The nine defibrillators supplied to Mazarron last year are held at the moment as Murcian law restricts the use of these machines to those specifically trained to use them. We are therefore looking for any medically trained personnel to contact us so that they can be included in the training programme and enable the machines to be released and placed appropriately.

Your support is much appreciated. Our stall at the car boot is in urgent need of bric a brac, so if you are spring cleaning why not let us have those unwanted items.
