PALS

The money from the New Year's Day sponsored swim continues to arrive. So far we have received 2,059€ and have definite pledges of a further 495€, but there are a few uncollected amounts. Please get these to us in order that we may publish the final amount.

The Beetle Drive at The Steak Out was an unqualified success and people are clamouring for a repeat. Watch this space!

The Trolley Dash at Uppers was held on the 12th January and the winner Terry Groom donated the contents of the four trolleys with a check-out value of 363€ to La Purisma, the Old Folk's Home in Mazarrón. The Mother Superior was most grateful and thanked all involved. We are planning a Summer Trolley Dash at Consum in Camposol so look out for the tickets.

PALS exist to purchase medical and life saving equipment for the Mazarrón area and at the moment are holding back on the purchase of any further items until the defibrillators purchased last year are in operation. These are held pending alterations to the law prohibiting non-professionals from using them, although these are 'foolproof' models, designed to be used as quickly as possible to save lives. We are, however, continuing to accumulate money for the local emergency services and will agree with them a programme as soon as the defibs are in use. PALS are currently holding 12,000€ on deposit specifically scheduled to augment the equipment at the proposed Camposol Health centre and will continue to reserve 40% of net receipts for this use. It was also agreed this month that we would attempt to help the new radiotherapy unit at the new Cartagena Hospital with any equipment when the unit is up and running.

We take this opportunity to recognise the excellent work of MABS and wish them well in their fund raising activities.

We have been asked again recently if we can help with translations at hospitals and doctors. The answer is No. Our raison de'etre is to purchase equipment and generally we try to maintain that, so please use the various excellent translation services in the area.

Our forthcoming events for March and April are a Coach shopping trip to Benidorm on the 5th March.
Beetle Drive and the St George's Dinner at Mariano's on of course the 23rd April.
Tickets from Sheila 969 138823.

We have our AGM on 10th March in the Golf Club on Camposol at 11am. All welcome.

CAFÉ NEWS.
The bank balance at the moment stands at 9,333€ and there are a number of businesses and individuals who are raising money for the cause, which is of course to purchase a rapid response community ambulance to be based north of Mazarrón. In particular Tel's Bar provided 700 Euros from a recent event, thank you Carol and all involved and Kevin's Fly Screens are making monthly contributions. We understand that The Steak Out is having a D-Day do with proceeds coming CAFÉ'S way. Great! Please continue to provide. Let us look forward to announcing the 1,0000€ barrier has been passed! CAFÉ is administered by The Lions International and PALS and contributions may be given to any member.
