Working as an Engineer many moons ago I faced a problem which was less engineering and more an issue of the mind.

The Paper Mill needed an entirely new Water Treatment Plant for expansion plans, but I won’t bore you with the details. Anyhow, as I was working through the design, it became clear that there was going to be some difficulty in locating the Water Plant Building. As a solution, I proposed that we build the Water Plant on top of the pond used for Fire Pump water; you know drain, pile and refill, but this was rejected as too radical.

Many more meetings with the High-Heed-Yins got us nowhere. Eventually it was agreed that the Fire Pond Option should be budgeted and proposed. Unfortunately, it came back from the Management Board with the highly technical and commercially sensible question of “What is the New Plant going to do to the view from the Boardroom?”

Said Boardroom overlooked the Fire Pump Pond amid trees and wildlife which the managers had grown rather fond of over the years. Baffled, but determined, I prepared a scale drawing of the view from the Boardroom with the new plant drawn-in to show the effect of building over the pond. Actually, because of the trees you could only see the top two feet of the building from the Boardroom and we said we would paint it to match the sky!

In the end it was done and is still there.

God’s plan of Salvation is a radical solution to mans’ problem. Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me” John 14 v 6.

The issue might be that our familiar view from the Boardroom may change, but don’t let that stop you accepting it.
