Nature ESpuña Trails

NEST stands for Nature ESpuña Trails and we go on walks really as an excuse to socialise and make friends! We do easy walks that most ordinary healthy people can do - not long sporty walks that require athletic fitness or nerves of steel around death-defying slopes and perilous cliffs!

We love to see wildlife of any variety which is a bonus on any walk, and we like to admire the scenery and not walk so fast that we can't stop and take a photo or two here and there whilst chatting. The spirit of NEST walks is friendship and we like to stop and let people catch up and join in with us, rather than racing - everyone is a winner on NEST walks so there's no need to rush! We do walks in Sierra Espuña and the surrounding areas and we even sometimes go to Elche by train to see the green tropical gardens there.
On Friday 26th September NEST is going on an outing to a hidden gem of a lake. We'll be meeting in El Berro at 10.30am and then driving to the beginning of the walk. The drive itself will be an interesting and scenic one before we even start the walk! If you need directions to El Berro you'll find them on the website www.freewebs.com/louisalivingstone/directionselberroetc.htm

It'll be a picnic walk having a brunch/lunch on the edge of the lake just inches away from the pale blue tranquil waters in totally peaceful surroundings which will seem like a completely different planet! We have already done one walk to the lake area, but THIS walk is going to be different. It will take us right to the edge onto a beach in the centre of dry, inland Murcia! (However, NO bathing is allowed here as it is a reservoir!)

If you'd like to come, please book your place by phoning Louisa on 968607927 or 679002147, or email natureespunatrails@gmail.com and remember you have to supply a Spanish phone number when you book, before your place can be confirmed. The cost of walks is 5?. You DO need to wear sensible walking footwear and should bring some water to drink on all walks.

On other occasions we might go for a restaurant meal afterwards in an authentic Spanish-run restaurant. When that happens we go for a menu del dia and it costs extra, but it's entirely optional, and is usually very good value at around 9€ for a three or four course meal with drinks included. We often go to a restaurant in the mountains where sometimes wild boar can be seen!

You can keep in touch with what's happening via the website www.freewebs.com/louisalivingstone which is regularly updated, with dates of future walks, along with detailed driving directions to El Berro, as well as other things of interest.

There is even a new section with links to veterinary information and vet advice available via email, with very useful tips on doggie first-aid to help you until you can get to a vet and how to deal with emergencies such as different forms of poisoning. It's always best to be prepared. The links help you if you find going to a Spanish vet difficult or you're too far from a vet, or want to save money on unnecessary vet bills. Also, if you have never seen the video of Christian the lion, it is the most watched video on You Tube and actually moves people to tears of joy - there is a link to it on the website for you to enjoy.
