NEST March 2008

Now we're walking and talking into March! It's nice to look forward to more friendly outings and easy walks, where we can socialize, see spectacular views and eat delicious Spanish cuisine! Please book your place by phone on either 968607927 or mobile 679002147; either phone is usually available at any one time. You can also Email: natureespunatrails@gmail.com or text 679002147, but please bear in mind that you're not actually booked in until you've had a proper confirmation back. You also always need to be able to provide a Spanish phone number to be contacted on, in case of any last minute changes. The walks cost 5 euros, which will be going to one of the local animal rescue or animal spaying charities. The meals are at authentic Spanish restaurants and we have menu del dia which is usually 9 -10 euros depending on which restaurant - although we do have picnics at times. For example, when we go to Elche by train, we take a picnic to eat in one of the glorious tropical gardens there. You can always keep up to date with the latest walk listings and news and see lots more of interest about the area by looking at the website Website: www.freewebs.com/louisalivingstone/walksdatesinfo.htm

Just bring yourself, some water and a bite of something, along with sensible walking footwear, as we walk along rubbly caminos with slopes. We do easy walks and we don't go in for death-defying scrambles, climbs or steep drops! We like to see spectacular areas and places and wild-life spotting is an added bonus when it happens... which in Sierra Espuña, it often does!

Friday 14th March - Gebas walk through dazzling moonscape terrain followed by mountain restaurant in pine-clad Sierra Espuña and meal. Meet 10.30 El Berro car park and then drive to start point. A completely different set of surroundings from the usual pine clad scenery - this consists of white chalky dazzlingly bright moonscapes. An easy drive/walk with some rubbly caminos, taking in the view of a massive reservoir/lake in the distance which is out of this world! You might never know this place existed! Then we'll drive to eat in an authentic Spanish restaurant in a wonderful hidden-away area in the mountains where it's sometimes possible to see wild boars.

Monday 31st March - Elche Day Out by train from Alhama de Murcia with picnic. Meet Alhama de Murcia train station at 9.45, ready to buy your day-return ticket to Elche Parque. A whole day out with some sitting, some walking! See the colourful spring flowers, tropical plants and exotic greenery, in the most beautiful gardens imaginable. Come and see a renowned gem of a place in Spain and let the train take the strain! Walking is involved once we get there, although everything is optional as follows: To set us up first when we get off the train, we'll see a very short film of Elche which is a fairly spectacular introduction to Elche and then have a friendly picnic. After that, the choices of optional extras are, a train trip on a little tourist train through the town to orientate yourself, followed by a stroll into town and a climb up to the top of an ancient monument to get a panoramic 360 degree view of the area stretching for miles, and then a walk to the Jardin del Cura where some of the oldest palms and cacti are a sight to behold in the most beautiful settings. It's a very interesting day out. Treat yourself to a new experience and come along!
