NEST June 2008

Nature ESpuña Trails - Variety is the Spice of NEST!
For anyone interested in sightseeing and easy walking, and socialising and making new friends, on Friday 6th June NEST invites you to come and see the Snow Houses in Sierra Espuña, meeting at 10.30 am in El Berro car park.

The Snow houses are well worth seeing and the summer heat is less scorching when you get right to the top of the mountains which are occasionally snow-capped in winter (at altitudes which are far higher than El Berro). This is a very easy shortish walk of only appx 2 hours - with a couple of slopes. We'll drive into the utmost heights of Sierra Espuña in convoy along narrow mountain roads (which always means car-sharing) in order to start our walk. In times gone by, ice was packed in straw and stored in order to be taken to far off places packed by donkey. It would be taken to places as far away as Cartagena to make ice-cream for the rich and was also used for medical purposes in hospitals. After seeing the Snow Houses we'll have a scrumptious authentic Spanish meal in a tucked away restaurant in Sierra Espuña, where wild boars can sometimes be seen. What better than to eat a delicious four course Spanish meal in good company, for around 9€ including drinks!

Also on 26th June and 24th July there are two opportunities, starting later in the day to avoid the heat, meeting at 5pm, to see Eagles' nesting areas in Sierra Espuña. You will see some beautiful views in the heights of Sierra Espuña surrounded by pine trees and nature. The walks will be followed by a sociable gathering in a local mountain cafe/bar/restaurant where you can order and pay for whatever you want and have a sociable evening amongst friendly people like yourselves! Because of the heat, there is a lot more emphasis on seeing things slowly, looking at interesting features and being sociable, rather than the walk itself!

NEST generally is about easy, sociable walks, not about tests of endurance! So don't by shy, come along and have fun and make friends! If you're on your own you'll be made very welcome too. Walks cost 5?. To book your place (you must book as restaurants need booking and places can be limited) just ring 968607927 or 679002147, or email natureespunatrails@gmail.com and state your name, Spanish tel no, and amount of people. If emailing wait for confirmation that you're booked. Looking forward to meeting you! Bring sensible footwear and some water to drink. Dogs on leads are welcome too. The restaurant meal is optional. El Berro is signposted all the way from Alhama de Murcia, taking the C3315 route in the direction of El Berro!
