NEST July 2008

NEST walks and outings for July.
NEST walks are always easy, and suitable for non-sporty people.. and never as easy as these short summer strolls, such as the one on Thursday 24th July, meeting at 5pm at the car park in El Berro, to see the Golden Eagles' nesting areas in Sierra Espuna.

Golden Eagles are a massive bird of prey with one of the largest wingspans in the bird world, anything between 6 and 10 feet apparently! It´s true that if you´ve seen these amazing birds you´re unlikely to forget them. They are beautiful creatures and do have nesting areas in Sierra Espuna. They are on the hunt for prey at any given time and can even take dogs! One of the things I was warned about when I first arrived in El Berro, was not to let my dog wander off the lead ahead of me, as a lady from El Berro village had lost her dog that way the day previous to my arrival. The eagle had shot down and grabbed it as her dog ran ahead of her, before she could do anything about it.. The poor dog was later dropped by the eagle and died that way. So Golden Eagles are quite fearsome creatures for dog owners, especially with small dogs. They are of course well worth seeing and keeping an eye out for, they are a sight to behold. Of course nobody can guarantee what if anything you will see, but you definitely won´t see anything by staying at home indoors!

Wear good sensible walking footwear and bring some water in case you get thirsty. It will be hot.

Places (which cost 5 euros) are very limited on this walk so book early. We´ll then go for a relaxed sit down and you can order whatever you want at one of the local restaurant/bars in El Berro for a sociable evening get-together.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Keep a look out in the Costa Calida Chronicle and also on the NEST website, for new dates coming up for outings and walks in August and autumn!
