Autumn Bowling

With an unusually hot September in the Murcia Region, Mazarrón Bowls Club continued with evening ‘roll-ups’ longer than usual this year. Morning ‘roll-ups’ resumed on 20th September and this was following by an EGM to appoint a Club Captain and Vice President.

mazarron bowls Brian Robertson is on the left and Brian Carter on the rightBrian Carter, from Cornwall was elected as Club Captain for a term of 2 years and Brian Robertson was appointed as Vice President for a term of 4 years. Both these members bring with them a wealth of experience to the Managing Committee. Brian Carter has been Captain and Secretary of his Club in the UK and Brian Robertson is a member of the Spanish National Squad with experience at International level.

With Brian ‘C’ captaining the two league teams and Brian ‘R’ assisting in the selection of players it is anticipated that Mazarrón Miners will retain their place in the First Division of the new LLB league and Mazarrón Mariners will move up a division in the South Alicante League.

The Club Championships start this month with the Club finals in March 2017. The individual discipline winners will then go on to play in the Champion of Champions in April against winners from other Clubs in the South Valencian Federation.

Also starting is the Internal Triples League on 11th October. This in-house competition comprises 12 teams playing a ’round robin’ of 18 ends for 11 weeks.

Various other competitions in the Autumn include an annual friendly with the bowls club from Indalo, the John Smith Trophy and the Mazarrón Trophy.

All in all is a very busy month ahead for Mazarrón Bowls Club, however we always welcome new members whether experienced or new bowlers.
