Go Miners Go!
The LLB Southern League
Friday 11th October saw our first match of the new season with Mazarrón Miners back in the top division of the LLB Southern League. Unfortunately our first opponents were Quesada Bowls Club who were runners up to the Champions in last year’s league and who proved just too good on their own rink on this occasion. Early days and better to come.
Mazarrón Trophy on Sunday 29th September
The day started off with a Fun Spider Drive won by Tom Percy.
There was a good turnout for the Mazarrón Trophy and everyone enjoyed the day in glorious sunshine. Eight teams of three played a 1-2-3 format comprising six ends with one member of the team playing singles, followed by the other two members of the team playing pairs, then all three team members playing eight ends of triples. The winning team is the team with the highest cumulative score from the twenty ends. A very keen contest resulted in the team of Gill Appleton, Tom Percy and Alan Benton winning the trophy with 29 points. Tied second with 25 points each were team Rob Roberts, Ron Potts and Doug Macfarlane and team Kerry Henry, Barbara Male and Harold Morris. It was an especially good day for Tom.
Members Jim Coughlan, Gordon and Barbara Tottey, and Clive Hoyal went to the very popular bowling centre at Potters Resort in Norfolk for a bowling holiday recently. They were joined by former MBC members Dave and Denise Green and Ken and Pat Alton now resident back to the UK. They all had a fun time, winning two out of four games in the in-house competition with competitors from throughout the UK.

Ready for the New Season
At the beginning of October, a team of members spent a very hot Saturday morning preparing the home rink ready for the start of the league games and prior to the Club Championship matches which are now well underway. Being so hot made removing all the rubber matting from the rink ditches, then sweeping the ditches to remove all the debris and replacing the cleaned matting hard going. The faded competition lines were re-marked, numbers and marker signs were renewed and the never-ending weeds removed. A welcome drink was had by all the workers.
MBC look forward to welcoming new players at the club’s Roll Up on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am. Colin Appleton can be contacted on 605 492 937 or check www.mazarronbowlsclub.com where you will find more information.
