Bowling in 2018
Competitive bowling in the Southern League and South Alicante Leagues stopped in mid-December for the midwinter break. In Division ‘A’ of the Southern League, Mazarrón Miners were second from bottom at the break requiring an improvement in the second half of the season to maintain their position in the top League. Mazarrón Mariners however were comfortable leaders in the Voyager Division of the South Alicante Leagues with a twenty-seven point lead at the half way point.
On 14th November, Dawn and Brian Bunce organised a successful Australian Pairs Competition. The day started with a ‘Spider’ which was won by Barbara Tottey who received a large fruit hamper. The Australian Pairs competition was won by Janet Rogers and Alan Benton, with Barbara Male and Mark Betcher the runners-up. Diversity Restaurant at Condado Golf Club donated the prizes of a Sunday lunch for the winners and cream teas for the runners-up.
The Old Year finished with informal bowling competitions on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day at the Hacienda del Alamo bowls rink. There were very pleasant weather conditions and all were well supported and enjoyed by members and friends who had not travelled away over the Christmas period. Food was provided by members including chilli on Boxing Day and soup on New Year’s Day to round off the bowling activities for the year.
