News and Dog of the month
Petra is a young (about 18 months old) German Shepherd cross. She was found in the street heavily pregnant and very scared. Very good with people, she would make a lovely only dog.
On the good news front, we would like to give heartfelt thanks to Sandra from Benablon who has adopted Roni, one of our longest staying residents, and to Brian from Pliego who has adopted Rosita, a very sweet little girl. Also, Nano - a fabulous greyhound - is being adopted by a family in France.
A big thank you to Cosas y Cosas, patrons of 3 Lions in Mula and to MARA for funding an operation for Pepito. Pepito recently came to Marisé Checa when he was found on the street and could not walk after an accident with a car. We did not have the funds to pay for the expensive operation so we really appreciate the help. We are, however, very hopeful of a full recovery.
Marisé Checa relies totally on voluntary donations and we are very short of funds, especially after an influx of dogs, other operations and sending 2 dogs to France. Please take a few moments to look at our website where you can donate online or sponsor a dog. Alternatively, we have collection boxes at Cosas y Cosas, British Foods and Goodies, the Camino Verde vet and Ye Olde Begastri in Cehegin and at the vets Chacón in Caravaca. All of our money goes to the dogs, with volunteers paying for all administrative costs such as the website and publicity material.
Our rescue centre helps stray and abandoned dogs from Caracava, Cehegin and the surrounding areas. It is run by a small dedicated group of Spanish volunteers who give up much of their spare time to the cause. It is important to note that our dogs are fully vaccinated, wormed regularly, walk on a lead, eat dried dog food and are friendly and sociable with people and other dogs. If a dog is adopted, we can try help to arrange for it to be neutered for no charge. Please note that the rescue is full and, until more of our dogs are adopted, we cannot accept any more dogs. Sorry!
