Marisé Checa Dog Rescue
Marisé Checa Dog Rescue - July 2008

Our rescue has been in existence for almost five years, helping stray and abandoned dogs from Caracava, Cehegin and the surrounding areas. The work was begun by Marisé Checa, a lady from Caravaca, and is now continued by a small, dedicated group of Spanish volunteers who give up much of their spare time to the cause.

The Mayor of Caravaca has temporarily given us a small, abandoned house with some land, but it has no electricity and all water has to be taken there in bottles. Other than voluntary donations, there is no financial help available so resources are very stretched. Nevertheless, all of our dogs are well cared for and exercised daily. Medical treatment is also provided as needed. It is important to note that the dogs:
· are fully vaccinated
· are wormed regularly
· walk on a lead
· eat dried dog food
· are friendly and sociable with people and other dogs

If a dog is adopted, we can help to arrange for it to be spayed for no charge.

One of the major problems is lack of space and the rescue is full to bursting; no more dogs can be helped until some are adopted. The British community is our main hope for help.

Daily, we help dogs which have been living on the streets or abandoned. Our dogs love being with people and get excited when we go to see them. They really all deserve the chance of a good home, with lots of affection and fun. We know that they adapt very quickly to a new life, fitting in with your routine and giving many rewards.

In addition to those who may be interested in adopting one of our dogs, we always need volunteers to help walk the dogs and show them affection. Any fund raising or other practical help would also be much appreciated.
