Marisé Checa Dog Rescue - August 2008

News and Dog of the month

Raski more than deserves a lovely house and owner. He is a young dog who has been suffering from an ear infection, probably since he was a puppy and the likely reason he was abandoned. He has recently had two operations and our volunteers are looking after him at their homes. Although recovering well, he is totally fed up wearing a big plastic collar for two months! Raski is a very affectionate, placid dog who is house-trained. He loves being with humans and other large dogs. He is great on the lead and likes going for a walk and to play. We hope that you will find a place for him in your home and heart!

On the good news front, Lar is going to be adopted at the end of July by a French family. He has not had an easy life in Cehegín; he was one of three puppies left in on the streets after his mother was taken to France. We took them to our rescue and one of the puppies was adopted by a family from Barcelona a few years ago. One sadly died, but Lar remained with us. The family in France have cats, so it was a condition that Lar gets on well with cats. As you can see from the photo, this is not going to be a problem! We are very happy that Lar is going to have a new life, but we will miss him a lot. We would like to thanks to Passion Lévriers who is helping us re-home greyhounds from Cehegín and the rest of Spain.

The other good news is to welcome 2 new volunteers - Sue from Cehegin and Angela from Benablon. Their help is much appreciated.

Our rescue helps stray and abandoned dogs from Caracava, Cehegin and the surrounding areas. It is run by a small dedicated group of Spanish volunteers who give up much of their spare time to the cause. It is important to note that our dogs are fully vaccinated, wormed regularly, walk on a lead, eat dried dog food and are friendly and sociable with people and other dogs. If a dog is adopted, we can try help to arrange for it to be spayed for no charge. Please note that the rescue is full and, until more of our dogs are adopted, we cannot accept any more dogs. Sorry!
