On Monday 13th May early morning, it looked like it was going to be a really hot day for golf. As everyone was arriving at the La Torre Golf Resort the weather was changing with a lot of rain clouds and the temperature had dropped. Just before tee off it felt comfortable with a breeze blowing, but shortly afterwards the weather changed again and it was scorching and so were the scores.
Twenty eight players including guests enjoyed the day playing a singles Stableford and with 762 points scored the average score was 27 points.
The course looked superb; the fairways were in great condition and with the par 68 being one of the shorter courses, most players, even the high handicappers, were reaching the greens in two. The greens were a little fast and it was easy to roll on three to four foot past the hole and with that in mind it was also easy to hit short. A number of players were saying “If only I had been a couple of inches longer!” hmmm!
Back in the clubhouse while everyone enjoyed a drink and talked of “if only”, the scores were checked and double checked.
The eventual winner of Division 1 was Glenn Read with 35 points and playing too good off his 11 handicap so loses two shots.
Division 2 winner and overall top scorer was Paul Davis with 36 points and another who will enjoy playing with a two shot drop in handicap.
Guest winner was Tim Michell with 32 points.
Nearest The Pin winners were Cameron Dickie, Harry Pearson, Neil Macfarlane, Glenn Read and Ian Atkinson.
