Our March team competition, a Waltz, was held at Lorca Golf Resort. We could not have wished for better conditions. It was perfect weather throughout the day with temperatures well above 22ºC.
With an 11am first tee we were obviously not the first group on the course and that became all too apparent as those of us starting later witnessed first-hand as the build-up of buggies at the first and second tees became quite a traffic jam. There could have been quite a delay for the late starters had it not been for our gallant Captain Bob Rowe. ‘Cometh the hour, cometh the man’. I was already aware of Bob’s linguistic abilities, having heard him not only speak English, but also Cornish. Furthermore, he can listen attentively to Geordies, so who better than Cap’n Bob to emulate Ben Hur as he leapt aboard a chariot and raced off down the fairway to the preceding group of players. Utilising his linguistic abilities, Cap’n Bob, using a north European language, asked the group to play quicker. Having delivered his message, Ben Hur Cap’n Bob returned, ganz schnell, to his team and resumed play.
Did we lose balls in the rough? Yes.
Did we wish our putting was better? Yes.
Let’s forget that and announce the results.
