August Competition Hacienda

Under normal circumstances Los Amigos Golf Society (LAGS) take a break during August. However, this season has been going well for some and others had nothing better to do, so a competition was requested and the committee duly obliged.

Hacienda was the venue and 24 members and guests competed in a pairs Stableford. When the pairings were drawn our very own Nostradamus (Fred Harvey) quite incredibly picked the winning combination; sadly Ladbrokes refused to take the bet!

The sun shone, the temperatures soared, the heat became more intense and the greens got faster and faster. A ‘2 put’ was considered exceptional on the day, a ‘3 put’ quite acceptable and a ‘4 put’ the norm! The searing heat began to take its toll and we believe that one of our members became delirious on the course. He was seen kneeling at the side of a green unable to make his pencil work while trying to enter his name on a ‘Nearest The Pin’ sheet. It was noticed by a keen-eyed committee man that the sheet was still inside the protective plastic sleeve! Not only are the protective sleeves waterproof; they are evidently pencil proof. In his delirium, the member concerned somewhat incoherently tried to explain “I knew that. I was just trying to see if you are all awake!” It would be unfair to mention this poor man’s name. All I will say is that he has already been mentioned in this report!

lags second, Ray and LesSo to the competition winners.
In first place and on the leader board for the second competition running: Keith Collins and Graham Thomason (guest) with combined score of 63 points. (Correctly predicted by LAGS’ very own Mystic Meg, ‘Fred the Forecaster’.
In second place: Ray Reynolds and Les Dryden with 56 points (on count back from Roger Olorenshaw and Keith Davis). Now I have to say that I remember penning Ray Reynold’s name on a number of occasions. However, this is the first time I can recall announcing Les Dryden in a winning combination. Well done Les! A real triumph for tenacity and determination.

The Presentation Evening was yet another very well attended event held in The Club House on Camposol with excellent food once again provided by the catering staff.
