Aguilón Competition, Monday 9th January
Our first outing of 2017 saw us returning once again to the excellent course of Aguilón. Normally, we can muster 36-40 players for such an immaculate course, but on this occasion we were hampered by that well known winter virus that we all love to hate – ‘flu.
On this occasion, 30 members including one guest, set out for Aguilón in the near ‘brass monkey’ temperatures of 6ºC! However, the Costa Cálida boasts 320 days of sunshine each year and this was one of them.
Our format for the day was a Texas Scramble and at 11:02am our newly appointed Captain, Bob Rowe, teed off with his fellow team members. The first obstacle of the day presents itself at the first tee where there is a lake to contend with before getting on to the fairway. Some of us fell victim to the water, but we were not deterred; armed with a scoop, we went to the water’s edge to retrieve the temporarily wayward ball. Los Barrancos de Aguilón (watch out for the film), are well known and it was into several of these that members of various abilities decided to send their balls, but it did not divert their attention too much from enjoying a good day’s golf.
Winners of the Team Trophy:
Geoff Ewins, Fred Harvey, John Dunbar and Dave Gautier with a net score of 59.5 points.
