Tuesday 4th July saw 32 members and guests of the Los Amigos GS arrive at a local course, Condado de Alhama for our monthly competition.
The format was a pairs Stableford with a very sociable Tee-off time of 10am. The weather was very good with very little humidity and temperatures of 26-28º Celsius. A nice refreshing breeze sprung up around midday which kept us fairly cool.
Since my last visit, it is quite apparent there have been some excellent improvements made to the course with the fairways being in excellent condition and the greens very fast. There are numerous lakes on the course and, regardless of which tee you are playing from, these lakes do present a challenge.
‘Fortune favours the brave’ and in our midst we have one sprightly septuagenarian who, on many occasions, certainly seemed to have lady luck on his side. For most of us mere mortals, when our ball is flying towards a lake it is quite apparent that it is going to stay wet, but that was not the case for this man, who in a former life was a painter, purveyor of strawberries for Wimbledon and has been known to sell the odd 99 ice cream or two! On one particular occasion, his ball demonstrated the Barnes Wallis theory to perfection by skipping across the water, but instead of exploding, it landed on the grass stopping in a nice playable position.
