July Competition, Aguilon
Los Amigos Golf Society July competition was held at one of the society’s favourite courses, Aguilon.
Remarkably the date seemed to clash with world consultation day as only 27 members played in the competition. Approximately one third of society members were either at the doctors or the hospital with complaints as interesting and varied as in-growing toe nails, tennis elbow, knee and hip joint problems, sciatica and athletes foot (which is as close to being an athlete as most will ever get!). Those deemed to be fit and healthy made their way to the always immaculate Aguilon golf course.
A Stableford competition was the order of the day, teeing off at a hugely acceptable time of 11am (the society normally tees off at the crack of dawn and with the aid of miners helmets!!!).
The usual suspects were to the fore when the points were totalled up;
Winner Division 1: the always reliable Gerry McRobert with 36 points (won on count back from another really consistent performer, Ray Reynolds).
Winner Division 2: the morally upstanding and all round ‘good egg’, Keith Davis with 35 points.
Winner Division 3: another consistent performer Eddy Spong with 35 points.
Nearest the Pin: this competition saw a ‘first’ and a ‘last’. On hole 12 for the first time in his playing career Fred Harvey was nearest the pin, since then we’ve not heard the last of it!!!! The full results:
Hole 3: Chris Jowett 2.2m
Hole 8: Roger Olorenshaw 3.82m
Hole 12: Fred Harvey 4.71m
Hole 14: Tony Pickworth 1.09m
Hole 17: Dennis Fisher 1.57m
Most members of LAGS take their performances very seriously. Committee man Dave Pugh was deeply concerned after what was, by his own standards, a poor round. The wooden spoon was unthinkable and Dave spent two sleepless night worrying before we put him out of his misery and awarded it to Jim McCormack at another great presentation evening at The Club House, Camposol. ‘Pugh’…. sighs of relief all round eh Dave!!!
