Monday 6th November and, for the majority of members, it was the first time we played at El Valle. Initially the temperatures were quite cool with strong winds, but as the sun rose so did the temperature to a comfortable 20ºC. The wind stayed with us for most of the day. However, by mid-afternoon, it had abated to more acceptable breeze like conditions.
El Valle is one of the six GNK resorts and is an absolute pleasure to play. The fairways were in excellent condition and the greens were very fast and occasionally difficult to read. It is a course definitely worth playing again.
Our format for the day was a Texas Scramble and with 40 members playing we were obviously in 10 teams of four. The course was very busy and it is to the credit of all members that we were able to maintain a satisfactory rate of play throughout our time on course.
The view from the Clubhouse terrace is worthy of special mention, not only for the distant views of the Mar Menor; it also allows those already in the Clubhouse the opportunity of making, ‘humorous comments of encouragement’ whilst watching their fellow members make their way up the 18th to finish on the green just 30 metres away.
