Monday 2nd July and thirty players, along with two guests, tried to conquer La Serena and the sixteen holes of water with the other two holes having no hazard. It was a very hot day with some very hot golf, especially on the two holes.
A single Stableford was the format for this month, split into three divisions and a later start than usual, the first tee being at 11am. It wasn’t long before most players were admiring the views and watching the ducks on the water, unless it was that they were looking for lost balls after a miss hit shot into the water. This is probably how ducks got their name!
It is some time since we played this course and we ought to play it more often. You really need to keep it straight with water to one side and bunkers to the other.
A number of pars were recorded, but only three birdies; Harry getting a two on the difficult seventeenth par three, Tony with a three on the long par four and John G with a three on the thirteenth.
Division 1 – Harry Pearson with 34 points
Division 2 – John Girvan with 31 points
Division 3 David Lynch with 28 points
Nearest The Pins: Dave Pugh hole 3, Keith Collins hole 9 and John Dawson hole 15
Later 56 players, partners and guests enjoyed the BBQ and presentation at the Clubhouse.
The next competition is at Lorca on 6th August.
