Mazarron FC with the Los Amigos Trophy
Mazarron FC with the Los Amigos Trophy

Mazarrón’s pre-season preparations were completed with a 1-0 victory at home against CD Vera on Saturday 17th August for a new trophy donated by the Football Club, The Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC Trophy in recognition of the support given by Los Amigos over the years.

The 2019/20 season started badly for Mazarrón with defeats in the opening two games. The first game, at home to a strong Mar Menor side ended in a 4-2 defeat. Mazarrón fielded only two of last season’s squad in their starting line up and were without eight players through a variety of reasons; injury, illness, suspension etc.

With more regulars available for the second game, away to El Palmar, Mazarrón took a first half lead, but the home team came back strongly in the second half to score twice and take all three points. However, it was a better performance by Mazarrón who played both Dani Barrelis and Dani Morales up front after persisting with one lone striker for such a long time.

The third game was at home to EDMF Churra who had qualified for the Tercera Division play-offs last season and had won both of their opening games. Mazarrón, however, threw caution to the wind, beginning the game with three strikers, including the newly signed Musoni who had joined from Belgian team HO Wolvertem.  In an exciting and most enjoyable game, Mazarrón came out on top 4-2 with goals from Dani Barrelis (2), Dani Morales and Diego. The team was still without captain and influential central defender Adrian Campoy and midfielder Jose Da both of whom are recovering from injury, but new signing Alvaro Gonzales joined and took his place in the centre of defence alongside Nacho and had an excellent debut against Churra.

Mazarrón’s home games are normally played on Sundays. Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC organises a supporters’ coach to most away games at €8 for members and €12 for non-members.  Full details of all games are advertised in the local media, www.mazarronfc.es, fb.me/mazarron2016 and on posters throughout Camposol and Mazarrón.

Forthcoming fixtures:

  • Sunday 6th October – CAP Ciudad De Murcia – home
  • Sunday 13th October – Cartagena FC UCAM – away
  • Sunday 20th October – UD Los Garres – home
  • Sunday 27th October – Lorca FC – away
  • Sunday 3rd November – Aguilas FC – away

Even though three home games will have been played by the end of September, it still makes sense to buy a season ticket if you intend to watch games regularly. The cost is €35 for ladies and €50 for others. Los Amigos members and associate members who have renewed their membership for the 2019/20 season can purchase the tickets for €30 (ladies) and €45 (others).

Almost forty Los Amigos members and friends attended a meal at the Bar Velasco Restaurant prior to the home game against EDMF Churra on Sunday 8th September. Thanks to Bernado for such a great afternoon in pleasant surroundings. Bernado acted as physiotherapist for Mazarrón FC a few seasons ago.
