Just as in the 2015/16 season, Mazarrón FC had to wait until the fifth game before gaining their first victory; a comprehensive 3-0 home win against CD El Esparragal.
A draw against high flying Cartagena FC and a 2-1 home victory over Racing Murcia City saw Mazarrón moving up to 11th place in the league by mid-October.
Only eight goals were conceded in the first seven games and four of those, three from the penalty spot, came in the home defeat to AD Caravaca. Juan Andreo and Raso are forming an impressive partnership in the centre of defence with right back Raul Torrano improving with every game after a shaky start. Chino, at left back, is perhaps the most impressive signing of the season and is combining well with Javi Torrano down the left hand side with some excellent surging runs.
The introduction of former Mazarrón striker Boudia in a holding midfield role has given added strength to that department and allows the talented Koko a free role. Javi Torrano has shown that he is a talented player, although he suffered an injury in the Cartagena game which kept him out of the team for the following game. Raul is a hard working centre forward who needs more support up front and it is this area which is the main cause for concern with only seven goals scored from seven games, all from different players.
With less than a quarter of the season gone however, there are encouraging signs that the players are getting to know each other and playing some decent football. The support shown by the local Spanish community and the ex-pats for the new regime under President Ruben Martinez and Vice President Blas Garcia has been excellent. More people through the turnstiles and a host of new advertising boards springing up at the Estadio Municipal augur well for the rest of the season.
Mazarron’s home games are normally played on Sundays with varying kick off times. Admission for this season has been reduced to €3 with juveniles under 16 free. Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC organise a supporters’ coach to most away games at €8 for members and €10 for non-members. Full details of all games, dates and kick off times are advertised in the local media, on www.mazarronfc.es, on Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC Facebook page, fb.me/mazarron2016 and on posters at various points throughout Camposol and Mazarron.

The Los Amigos September Luncheon Club outing was on Tuesday 25th October to Restaurante La Chara. As usual, members and friends enjoyed a great day out with excellent food and plenty of drinks!! For details and availability of all Luncheon Club outings please email Maggie at firstname.lastname@example.org
Unfortunately the annual President’s Bash scheduled to take place on 27th September, had to be cancelled at the very last hour when the Queen tribute act, Queen Universe, said that they were unable to fulfil the engagement, giving only a few days’ notice. This was a great disappointment as we were hoping to celebrate the 10th birthday of Los Amigos, but we had to cancel the event and refund all ticket monies.
To compensate for this a Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC 10th Birthday Party has been arranged for Friday 4th November at The Club House, Camposol at 7.30pm with music by The Geckos. Tickets are free for Los Amigos members including a basket meal and €10 for member’s guests.
The 8th Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC Gala Evening and Dinner will be held on Tuesday 21st March at Hotel La Cumbre, Puerto de Mazarrón. Ticket prices will remain at €40 with limited VIP places available at €50. The guest speaker is Alvin Martin, former West Ham United and England central defender. Alvin spent 20 years with West Ham and gained 17 international caps with England. Only four West Ham players have made more first team appearances than Alvin who made 596, scoring 34 goals. The four are Billy Bonds, Frank Lampard Senior, Bobby Moore and Trevor Brooking, so he is in good company. For a number of years Alvin has hosted a radio show on Talk Sport and is also an accomplished After Dinner Speaker. Comedian Gary Marshall, who did such an excellent job as MC last year, is returning in March and will this year be doing a 30 minute comedy act in addition to his MC duties. The musical entertainment will be provided by Woody and, by popular demand, President Dave Perks will be giving a repeat performance of his unique ‘Grace’ before dinner.
We are delighted to announce that Ibex Insurance and Mazarrón Entertainments Group have again agreed to be joint sponsors of the Gala Dinner which is very much appreciated.
On Monday 20th March we will be hosting a Celebrity Golf Tournament at Camposol Club de Golf which is again being sponsored by Expat Pensions, the trading name in the EU of the UK-based Magna Wealth Management Ltd.
Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC weekly meetings are held every Thursday at The Club House, Camposol at 4 pm with the exception of the last Thursday of each month which is reserved for the Members’ Business Meeting and open to members only. Los Amigos membership costs just 10€ which includes reduced coach travel and reduced prices to most of our social events.
