A return to the form shown earlier in the season by Mazarrón FC was welcome but too late to push for a place in the play-offs which had seemed possible in the weeks leading up to the Christmas break. Injuries and far too many unwanted suspensions played an important part in the slump in form, but a run of four games without defeat in mid-March and early April saw Mazarrón move up to ninth in the league with seven games remaining. Another long serving favourite Chino followed Boudia out of the club to seek a regular first team place with a lower division team and he scored four goals in his first five appearances for his new team, Cartagena FC UAM.
The injury situation saw youngsters Jaime and Jose Antonio gain some useful experience in the first team and they showed plenty of promise, so hopefully they will be regulars in the not too distant future. Jose Antonio is a member of the Cadetes (15-16 years old) squad who clinched the championship of their league with a 10-0 home win over FC La Union. With two games remaining their record was P22 W22 D0 L0 F204 A14 Pts66; an absolutely outstanding performance.
Mazarrón’s home games are normally played on Sundays and Los Amigos organise a supporters’ coach to most away games. Tickets can be booked at the weekly Los Amigos meetings at €10 for members and €12 for non-members. On longer journeys, a stop is often made en route for refreshments. Full details of all games are advertised in the local media, on www.mazarronfc.es, on fb.me/mazarron2016 and on posters at various points throughout Camposol and Mazarrón.

10th Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC Gala Week
Celebrations in support of Mazarrón FC proved to be the most successful ever.
Saturday 23rd March saw a most enjoyable Race Night at The Club House, Camposol C with comedian Gary Marshall acting as compere and sponsored by Lee Fisher of Camposol Property Sales. There were eight exciting races including two auction races and guests also enjoyed an excellent English style buffet supper.
The following day sixty Los Amigos members joined the visiting celebrities and their wives for a meal at the La Sienna Bar and Restaurant. After lunch they watched the Tercera Division game between Mazarrón and SFC Minerva. A coach was provided to take members to and from the game. The meal was excellent, but unfortunately the football was not and the celebrities had to endure 90 minutes of some of the worst football we have seen this season!!!
A record 84 players took part in the Celebrity Golf event at Camposol Club de Golf on Monday 25th March. Taking part in the Texas Scramble tournament were former footballers, Alec Stepney, Steve Kindon, Alvin Martin, Steve Daley and Tony Currie and they were joined by top Premier League Referee Mike Dean who was playing for one the of the Condado de Alhamo teams. Mike kindly presented us with a Premier League Referee’s shirt signed by all the current Premier League referees which we used as one of the prizes in our auction. The event was once again sponsored by Tramway Financial Management. The Competition was won by a team representing Condado de Alahama ‘B’ and the prize for the worst team went to the Celebrities ‘B’ team which included Alex Stepney, Steve Kindon, sponsor Andy Skinner and Los Amigos member Ian Gould. There were also prizes for Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin winners in the presentations which followed a superb two course carvery lunch.
The Gala Evening and Dinner at the Hotel la Cumbre on Tuesday 26th March saw a record number of football VIPs attending: Alex Stepney, Jan Molby, Steve Daley, Steve Kindon, Peter Reeves, Alvin Martin, Tony Currie, Lawrie Madden and Chico Hamilton. A number of them entertained the audience of 210 reminiscing about their football experiences with our excellent MC Gary Marshall. Former Burnley and Wolves player Steve Kindon was last on stage and earned a standing ovation for his exuberant and hilarious performance!! Thanks again to our joint sponsors Ibex Insurance and The Club House.
A massive €8,000 was raised for Mazarrón FC over the Gala Week, bringing the total raised in the ten years to €40,000. President Alan Lyle thanked and made a presentation to Dave Capper and his wife Tina who introduced the event back in 2010.
