Hopes of a play-off place for Mazarrón FC were virtually extinguished following two defeats in two games in early March against teams struggling to avoid relegation. After an excellent away win at promotion-seeking Mar Menor, two poor performances against CD Cieza and FC La Union Atletico saw Mazarrón in tenth position, nine points away from the play-off places.
The performances of the team have been poor and goals have been hard to come by with only six scored in eight games since late January. The team’s poor disciplinary record has not helped with players suspended in virtually every game. The team, which was playing such attractive football in the early part of the season, now struggles to put two passes together and too often are just content to play the long ball upfield.
Long serving Boudia left the Club in March leaving Mazarrón with just 18 senior players and with Zurdo out for the rest of the season and Salva Ballesta missing quite a few games with a knee injury, the depth of the squad was being sorely tested. On the bright side, young striker Jaime was scoring goals for fun in the juvenile’s team with 23 from just 12 appearances by mid-March and he must surely be on the verge of a break through into the senior team.
Mazarrón’s home games are normally played on Sundays with varying kick off times. Los Amigos de Mazarrón FC organise a supporters’ coach to most away games at €10 for members and €12 for non-members For longer journeys a stop is often made en route for refreshments .
