I hope you are all enjoying the summer sun catching up with family and friends. The committee are busy preparing the programme for next season so I thought I would remind you of some of the trips, lunches and presentations we have had this past year.
A visit to a pottery in Totana where we watched pottery being made, with a chance to buy. This was followed by an excellent lunch at La Rata.
In March we visited Guadalest. This was a fabulous trip; cold but lovely. A place worth another trip with so many Museums to see and a superb lunch.
We visited Elche Palm Gardens in April. It was totally fascinating. We loved it. We had a short train ride around the town and then lunch which was amazing. We were all so hungry after the long walk.
Our last trip of the season was to San Pedro del Pinatar with coffee at the Thalasia Hotel. We walked along the walkway at Lo Pagan seeing the mud baths, then lunch on the Mar Menor at Los Alcazares.
Shopping Trips included: Ikea, Thader and the Nueva Condomina; everybody’s Favourite La Zenia and Iceland; The Mediterraneo Shopping Centre and Material shop; Alhama Market and Chocolatte.
We had two celebrations at Restaurante Amapola for our Christmas lunch Party (a great afternoon) and our End of Season Party – both fabulous events.
We had a presentation by The English Funeral Director, Tony Smith, who gave a very interesting talk on how important it is to have a funeral plan. He had a few entertaining stories of things that happen sometimes when arranging funerals.
Irene Senior Peake one of the first people to live on Camposol, told us about Camposol from its very beginning to now. It is unbelievable how little there was and how the first settlers were almost pioneers!
Debbie Gatens introduced us to her alternative therapies especially Hypnotherapy
Medilink explained about their new App which is a very valuable aid in an emergency situation
What fun we had at the Nostalgia afternoon, provoking memories of games we used to play; Cat’s Cradle, Whizzing the Button, Jacks or Snobs, Skipping Rhymes. Other ladies brought in items that their mothers and grandmothers used to use – lots of wonderful memories.
In September 2018 we started having two meetings a month. Our second Thursday is usually just a coffee and chat afternoon.
The first one was a MacMillan Coffee afternoon. This was a huge success and we hope to do the same this September 26th with proceeds going to MABS. If you can make cakes, pastries etc. please get to work and come along and support.
Remember to put it in your diary – Thursday 26th September.
Last year Carol had us all knitting Cuddle Teddies and Hats for the Seaman’s Mission. Carol is still organising the handing over of these items.
Our project for this coming season will be Knitted Knockers. These are soft comfortable prosthetics for breast cancer survivors. We hope to have a representative from Knitted Knockers come along and explain what it is all about and show us how to knit them.
Chatterbox meetings will resume on Thursday 12th September at 2pm and continue every 2nd and 4th Thursday at the Social Centre, Camposol B. The committee has a full programme of excursions, lunches and afternoon speakers planned. Watch this space!

Chatterbox is committed to creating an environment which is welcoming to all. We understand the importance of meeting for company and a chat, particularly if living alone and far from family. We look forward to seeing old and new friends in September. Happy summer!
