May 21st saw the launch of a new Support Organisation for Animal Charities. The event "Here Comes Summer" took place at the Bar Restaurant La Fuente in Purias, Lorca and was attended by 150 people who enjoyed a Hog Roast, BBQ, Buffet and entertainment provided by "Arroz & Roll" and JFM Radio DJ Tony.
Following the tragic events following the terramoto in Lorca the previous week, Helping Hands held a raffle at the launch to raise funds to help those affected by the earthquake along with local resident Jean Cowan who is co-ordinating a collection locally.
Helping Hands has been set up to support the excellent work carried out by existing animal charities in Spain. Helping Hands wish to complement the work already being done by the charities by offering a range of services that will enhance their ability to provide for the animals in their care.
Without a doubt, one of the primary functions of the charity will be to provide financial assistance if required. This will be provided through a 'Grant Programme'. The concept behind this is that charities will be able to apply to Helping Hands for financial assistance for specific projects/programmes/equipment etc. This will enable monies to be targeted where they are most needed and provide supporters with feedback and the results of how money donated is being spent.
Helping Hands will also establish an 'Emergency Fund' which will be ring–fenced for sick and injured animals that need urgent medical treatment and where no other funding streams are available.
Other planned events include a Family Fun Day, Dog Show, Market & Boot Fayre on 9th October at the prestigious Centro Hipico nr. Pulpi and an Abba Night with Abbacadabra on 26th November.
